Every child learns differently, and understanding those differences helps us better support their growth and confidence. This page shares simple tools and ideas to support and encourage each child’s learning journey.
Over time, I’ve found a few resources that made a difference for my daughter:
-
Reading Ruler – available on Amazon; helps children track text and stay focused while reading.
-
Reading Pen – also from Amazon; reads words aloud and supports independent reading.
-
Magnetic Letters – fun, hands-on letters from Amazon that we used to play spelling games and build word confidence

At Home Games We Play
Here are a few of our favorite games that make learning fun and hands-on:
-
Puzzles – great for focus, problem-solving, and attention to detail.
-
Matching Word Game – I write words on flashcards, and she matches and reads them aloud.
-
Matching Memory Game – flip cards to find pairs; helps with recognition and recall.
-
Word Search – we race to see who can find the most words in a set time or finish first.
-
Alphabet Store Game – we go down the alphabet together using “I went to the store and bought...” while I write each letter on paper to help with recall.
-
Outdoor Scavenger Hunt – take photos of outdoor objects (trees, birds, houses), print them, and have your child find and label them.
-
Math Card Game – we each get 8 cards from the deck. We place one card down at a time, and whoever answers the addition or subtraction problem correctly first keeps the cards. It’s a fun way to practice math and help with number recognition, especially numbers that can be tricky like 6 and 9.
